Whistler is known as a four-season resort with activities for the whole family available all year all year. If you're planning a trip, when is to come?
First we divide the question into two parts. Whether you come for skiing in 8000 the legendary Whistler acres, you have to choose at some point between November and April. Although there is skiing available end of April is for serious skiers because the combination of marginal snow conditions and limited mechanical lift. Within this time, you should avoid November because, although occasionally there is good snow, more often than not is thin on the ground. So your choice is between the months of December to April. What are the main characteristics of each month?
December is a game of two halves. The first part are the desert tracks, the best deals on accommodation and restaurants and a lot about snow. If you have a great year coming in early snow, this will be a fabulous time to visit. If not, bring your skis rock and plan to spend some time in the great resorts of Whistler. Later, in December, and especially on Christmas and New Year have to pay steeper prices of the season, have trouble getting a table at one of the good restaurants and standing in a brutal line-ups in the Chair Harmony. However you experience the race that goes with the high season in a top hotel: the lively nightlife, parades, fireworks and excitement of the first night in the village.
January often has the best snow of the year (January 2006 was the snowiest months in Whistler for 25 years). Also offers discount in accommodation (which we can safely wait until the last minute to get a great deal on a beautiful villa or apartment), and no lift lines, except in powder day weekend, when the locals crowd lines up at 8.00 to take the fresh tracks. But it can be cold and dark early. January is the best month for hard core skiers.
February and March are tighter, but softer. Avoid Presidents week in February and March Spring Break and you could have the best of all worlds: a lot of time for the accumulation of snow that have generated a lot of rumors in the village but with easy access to the best tables.
April is mainly for the British market, which come in hordes during their Easter holidays. The peculiarity of the April snow is that more of it at the top of the mountain, but less at the bottom, so do not bother to pay the premium for a ski-in, ski-out condo, because it can not be possible. Last-minute discounts Whistler accommodations are widely available in April.
In the ski season you can not cancel nearly autumn too cold to swim in lakes and lots of rain. May and June can be great weather wise perfect conditions for rafting in the short snow-off and the great time playing golf. But probably have to leave for July and August, if you are looking for hot water in the beautiful lakes of Whistler.
