How do I format a Seagate SATA hard drive bought into a case of external drive?
I bought a Seagate 500 GB Serial ATA and 7200/32MB/SATA-3G A housing external hardrive SATA hard to put in. I have several versions I've built it was as simple as plugging the hard drive, food and the USB cable and off and running. I can not seem to make that happen with the new. that tells me I need to format the drive before putting the unit into the case. How do I do that? I've done the obvious, ie. install outer case and plugged it in Windows goes through the motions to recognize the drive and tells me he's ready to use, but I can not locate the drive in Windows Explorer. I found a little blurb in the case of the instructions says I need to format the drive. Short of trying to install the drive on my PC to any other format is common practice to fix this?!!
See if it shows in Disk Management Right-click the PC> Manage> Disk Management. Search drives or removable storage. It might even be under USB controllers. If that doesn't work try SeaTools for Windows. It includes several tests that will examine the physical media of your disk drive Seagate or Maxtor and other disk drive Seagate.
