High Sierra

The high school dropout rates are being released nationwide under a new formula, the mandate of No Child Left Behind (NCLB Act) of education. These types can cause both to taxpayers and parents, once again scratch their head and make the simple question: What is the cause of dropout is gives all the billions of dollars invested in these public schools continuously to ensure acceptable rates of graduation from school?

In Indiana, for example, current data suggest that 1 in 4 students in a statewide average is removed from high school. Within the next two months, all individual school districts within the United States shall make its own rates of school graduation.

The calculation of NCLB is much more common meaning that many educators want to admit to parents and taxpayers. Instead of calculating graduation rates since the start of the campaign for high-end Last year, schools are obliged to report graduation rates based on those who entered as freshman and graduating seniors. Recently, I informally surveyed over 100 parents and 99 of them thought that was how graduation rates were actually calculated. As schools receive a average of $ 10,000 per year from Taxpayers dollars for each student in the public school system each year by not including those who left school before graduating distorts both the effectiveness and efficiency of public education. Maybe that's why some of the inspectors consider their response to this common moral sense approach is the outrage at the police students rather than addressing the real reasons that schools are failing students graduate.

Taking a href = "http://EzineArticles.com/?id=131153" out of the new perspective approach to these data, we can say honestly that the public education system is producing a defective product in four. With baby boomers retiring over the next decade, U.S. economy face a critical shortage in finding skilled and educated. Unless, of public education makes significant changes on how to educate young people, the U.S. is in crisis and will lose its number one place in the global economy.

Not only these dropout rates school negatively affect economic growth in each community, state and nation, these young uneducated add costs to the fund each one of stateaid's. The Friedman Foundation, based in Indianapolis dropout estimates for 2006 will cost the state of Indiana, more than 55 million U.S. dollars each year to these students die. As the rates of living are increasing, taxpayers can expect from Indiana at least 20 to 30 years or thousands of millions of dollars spent is spent on these young These costs are estimated lost tax revenue, social health care, such as Medicaid and incarceration.

Educational research suggests that most young people make the decision to leave the middle school or high school. Early kindergarten is not the answer as no matter how much education is available before the first years of adolescence. Unless young people participate actively in their learning, we will continue seeing these unacceptable rates of decline.

The Gates Foundation in a report released earlier this year revealed that over 40% of students left because of the classes were not interesting. Given that even many of the exhibition have had poor teams and high technology, much of the instruction is still based on the school system is still sour that the basis for the system of U.S. public education. In addition, another study by Civic Enterprises suggested that 90% of dropouts had passing grades, but left again because classes were too boring. In reading more solutions to this problem, the response is another curriculum based on the beliefs that start having their origin in a sour economy. The truth is that our country not to restructure education when the industrial revolution happened and still employs an approach of patches to fix the problem. Therefore, this is the reason why real education reform has never existed in this country since the 1970s.

One of the best analogies to this problem is to imagine a small miniature horse pulling a cart. The little horse and cart were covered in fiberglass to look like a modern vehicle, high performance. However, despite its high performance is still engine is a horse. This is what our education system really is. And the sooner we, as parents, employers, taxpayers, education professionals and even students to admit that the real problem, the sooner we can begin to stop the high school dropout.

If we are committed to the definition of Einstein of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again hoping for different results, education will continue to deliver a negative return on the Taxpayers 'dollars. However, if we begin to build a new belief system based not on a sour economy, but is based on a knowledge of the 21st century and the economy technology, can only begin to change course and maintain our high standards of living and our number one position in the world economy.
